National Berlin, the extreme long distance competition organized by the Bihor Racing Pigeons Association, a traditional one now, reached the 9th edition this year. Debuting in 2011, National Berlin evolved rapidly, together with the level of racing pigeons sport in Romania and every year there has been an increase in the number of pigeons and fanciers, today being the most popular race of the competitional year. As it is known, national competitions are the most important of the season. In each region, they are treated very seriously and consistently enjoys impressive numbers of participants. National Berlin, The Classic of the western area, is organised by the Bihor Association and has a minimum distance of 900 km for the fanciers in Satu-Mare. The launching point for the National Berlin is Stendal, and people from all the counties within the Carpathian Arch can participate. The cup offered to the winner of the National Berlin competition is a very special one, being among the most wanted trophies at national level. Every year, the cup offered to the winner of the National Berlin comes from Belgium, being specially ordered to the manufacturers for this race. For this season also, National Berlin will be a race of proportions. All the details for organizing the race are already established, including the prizes. The start for the National Berlin will take place on July 30th, when the procedures will begin. To make the participation possible for more and more people, seven embarking centers will be organized, in the most important cities of the West area. So, those who want to participate can embark their pigeons in one of the following: Oradea, Caransebeș, Timișoara, Arad, Cluj-Napoca, Satu-Mare and Baia Mare, for this purpose, contact persons and centers leaders being already chosen. More than that, associations wishing to organize an embarking center for National Berlin and meeting the necessary conditions stipulated in the National Sport Regulation, can email a request to kernelu@gmail.com, following the procedures necessary for this purpose.
Not least, the prizes offered for the Berlin National Competition are very important. The imposing trophy, the “National Berlin” Cup, will be offered for the winner. The 1st place for each embarking center will be rewarded with a Topigeon recording time system, and first 3 pigeons and fanciers will get a plaque. The novelty is the Berlin Interpares award for 2, 3, 4 and 5 years, where the winners of the first 3 places will receive a plaque. As well, CEST PHARMA, official sponsor of the competition, will offer the winners a package of products for racing pigeons. One of the most important prizes offered at the Berlin National 2019 will be a Dacia Logan car, offered to the fancier who will get the best team score on one of the center ranking, area or province. The costs of participating in this year’s edition of the Berlin competition is 100 lei (22 €) / fancier, regardless of the number of pigeons engaged, and to enter the race for a Dacia Logan car, the amount of 400 lei (85 €) / fancier must be paid. This prize will not be offered unless at least 100 people are registered, to pay the related tax. In case the minimum number of 100 will not be met, the money paid by the already registered fanciers will be refunded. Every participator in National Berlin dreams of winning the big prize. Over the years, the ones who won the 1st National place are from all areas of the country. The previous season, the National Berlin winners were Nicola + Dehelean team from Lipova, Arad county, from a total of 6656 pigeons and 829 people participating. In 2017, one of the fanciers with the longest distance in the competition (1201 km), Lupu Asavei Constantin from Deheleni-Hilau, Iași county, won the 1st place Berlin National out of 5714 pigeons and 884 fanciers, while the 2016 edition was awarded by the Curea + Dinu team from Timişoara, in a competition consisting of 5046 pigeons and 734 fanciers. With such a variety of winners, National Berlin is a competition where everyone has real chances of winning. Certainly, this year will follow the upward trend from the past seasons, and the competition will once again be a high level one.
