Muntenia, the “absolute queen” of the Middle distance category in Romania

To see how combative are the columbophile provices of Romania (Moldova, Muntenia, Oltenia, Transylvania and the Western Province), we propose a series of comparative presentations of the last three seasons, depending on the categories of competition. In each of the categories, together with their derivatives,  the criterion will be the ranking in the top three  at national level. Then, we’ll show you a hierarchy of provinces, the prizes they’ve received each year, plus a few other analyses. To make a transparent ranking of the provinces, the trophies won will receive the following score: 1st place – 3 points, 2nd place – 2 points, 3rd place – 1 point. In the end, we will calculate the total score achieved on all three seasons of each province and, according to this criterion, we will achieve a final ranking of them.  For today, we propose the Middle distance category.

As will be seen in our analysis, national awards were won for National Middle distance in all five columbophile provinces of Romania. Of course, we found some obvious differences, perhaps also influenced by geographical position or bending to other categories in certain regions. Somehow easy to predict, Muntenia is the province where the most trophies and, in the same time, the most important national ones were won in the Category of National Middle distance.

Muntenia

Over the past three seasons, fanciers in the province of Muntenia have won a total of 44 national trophies in the National Middle distance category. In 2017, no less than 21 national cups were won. Basically, columbophiles in this region have won many national awards,  sometimes even all three podium places for Middle distance sub-categories in 2017: 1 and 2 National Middle distance Old birds, 2 National Middle distance Yearlings, 1 and 3 National Middle distance Young birds, 1 and 2 National Middle distance fanciers, 1, 2 and 3 National Middle distance  Old birds Palmares, 1, 2 and 3 National Middle distance Yearlings Palmares, 1, 2 and 3 National Middle distance Fanciers, 1, 2 and 3 National Middle distance Palmares 3 years, 1 and 3 National Middle distance  Fanciers Palmares 3 years. In the 2018 season, in Muntenia, 15 national trophies were won: 2 and 3 National Middle distance Old birds, 2 and 3 National Middle distance Yearlings, 1, 2 and 3 National Middle distance Young birds, 1 and 3 National Middle distance Fanciers, 1, 2 and 3 National Middle distance Palmares, 1, 2 and 3 National Middle distance Fanciers Palmares. Last year, fanciers from this province have won the following prizes: 1 and 2 National Middle distance Old birds, 1 and 2 National Middle distance Yearlings, 1 National Middle distance Palmares, 2 and 3 National Middle distance Palmares and 3 National Fanciers Palmares.

Transylvania

For the total of the three seasons analysed, six national trophies were won in the province of Transylvania in this category: 2nd place National Middle distance Fanciers Palmares 3 years in 2017; 3rd place National Middle distance Yearlings and 2nd place National Middle distance Fanciers, in 2018; 3rd place National Middle distance Yearlings and 1st and 2nd place National Middle distance Fanciers, in 2019.

Western Province

For the last three seasons, the Western fanciers have won five national trophies at Middle distance: 3rd place National Middle distance Old birds, 1st and 3rd place Middle distance Yearlings, in 2017; 1st place National Middle distance Old birds in 2018, and 1st place National Middle distance Palmares in 2019.

Oltenia

In this category, Oltenia has been represented at national level in the last three seasons only by fanciers from Vâlcea County. Thus, in 2017, the 2nd place National Middle distance Fanciers was awarded, so that the following national awards came to Oltenia only last year: 3rd National Middle distance Old birds, 2nd and 3rd National Middle distance Fanciers.

Moldova

As in the case of Oltenia, the province of Moldova can boast, during the period we are looking at, only four national prizes in the Middle distance category, won in 2017 and 2019: 2nd national Young birds in 2017 and 1st, 2nd and 3rd National Young birds in 2019.

Conclusions:

Looking at the results of each season, we can see that Muntenia has established a clear supremacy over this category. In 2017, apart from a few places on the national podium, the fanciers of Muntenia won almost all possible national trophies. Specifically, we are talking about 21 trophies won out of 27 available. The following season, 2018, apart from Muntenia, with 15 national prizes won, several fanciers from Transylvania and the Western Province have won a national trophy, but it should be remembered that since this season the number of Middle distance subcategories  and the number of Middle distance stages that can be organized in a season has decreased. In 2019, Muntenia wins again the most trophies, but also from the other provinces, the fanciers that managed to occupy important positions of the national championship at Middle distance. For example, all three national cups from Middle distance Young birds went to Moldova, Oltenia also returned to the charts, with 2nd and 3rd places Middle distance Fanciers and 3 Middle distance Old birds. Transylvania won last year the 3rd place Middle distance Yearlings and the 1st and 2nd Fanciers category, while in the West Province, the 1st place Middle distance Palmares was obtained. In the end, the ranking by provinces looks like this:

  1. Muntenia: 89 points  (44/2017+28/2018+17/2019= 92)

2.West: 11 puncte (5/2017+3/2018+3/2019= 11) and  Transylvania: 11 points (2/2017+3/2018+6/2019= 11)

  1. Moldova: 8 points (2/2017+6/2019= 8)
  2. Oltenia: 5 points (1/2017+4/2019= 5)
