The last national marathon race of Moldova, National Birzai, organized by the Neamt Racing Pigeons Association, had for the start line over 9000 pigeons and 807 fanciers from 13 counties. Like all the other national races, the launch took place on Friday, August 2nd, and until the end it proved to be an extremely difficult one. Despite all these, Măgirescu, Ojog + Dorneanu triplet from Bacău, fanciers with many great results on marathons, ends the competition season by winning the 1st place National Birzai 2019.
1st place National Birzai 2019, with a new nocturnal arrival
After some remarkable results of this season, such as 3rd and 4th place of over 19,000 pigeons at the Madona National race, Măgirescu, Ojog + Dorneanu triplet added to their impressive record a new top result for marathons, finishing the competitional season in a spectacular manner. Although for everyone Birzai National was a catastrophic race, these three fanciers succeeded an exceptional arrival. Their hen, 0164200/2017, daughter of the triple National Champion of Yearling Marathon cathegory, arrived home almost at midnight, at 23:58, after an exhausting 1099 km flight. So, with another nocturnal arrival after the ones from National Madona, the successful triplet from Bacau took over the highest step of the podium, where they remained until the end of the season. „National Birzai of 2019 was, by far, the most difficult marathon since we started to organize these national competitions. Especially for the counties behind us, the losses were huge. The pigeons had a hard arrival everywhere, and many of them with good results on national level were lost. We participated with 20 pigeons, half ot them youngsters, and half of them old birds. The old birds had better arrivals, most losses being among yearlings. The hen who won the race is the daughter of triple national champion of Yearling Marathon 2014 and of a cock with Chris van der Velden origins. The hen also participated for National Madona, where it was the 124th of 19.091 pigeons, and now managed to win the second National marathon race, achieving a nice score for the Marathon Grand Prix category. It’s an ambitious hen, but wasn’t necessarily one of my favourite. Now, the hen achieved this very good result, despite de fact tha it didn’t have a great nest position, and proved me it’s a valuable pigeon. In fact, we always expect that at the age of two, some of our pigeons would explode. Our method is to make a hard selection for yearlings. To achieve this, they participate for at least two marathon races. It is true that there are losses, but those who resist this tough selection will become very good pigeons. It is a conclusion that we have reached over time and we’ll continue to use this system. I don’t think a pigeon that doesn’t show signs of being a good one from the first year of flight, will do something notable at the age of two. I prefer that the pigeons that stay over the winter in our lofts are the pigeons that have done something remarkable and to look at them with admiration” said Daniel Măgirescu.
