From the Western Province, the racing pigeon associations of the counties Caras-Severin, Timis, Arad, Bihor, Satu-Mare, Salaj and Maramures belong, groups affiliated to the National Federation of Pigeon Fanciers in Romania. Each year the Western Province provides many national champions, both for pigeons and fanciers.
In the provincial championship of the Western area, for short distance category, „the big fight” for the first places in the different subcategories generally was between Timis, Salaj and Maramures. From these three associations come the provincial champions and the occupants of the other places on the podium, which shows that, at least this season, they had the best pigeons for this category of competitions.
Florin Hanciu (TM), the provincial champion for the Young Birds Short distance category
Florin Hanciu has already started to reap the fruits of an extraordinary season of young birds competitions. In the county championship he was the champion in almost all competing categories. Florin Hanciu has achieved two very good results at the provincial level too, for Young birds, Short distance category. He is both the provincial champion, and the third place occupant. Provincial 1st place was brought to him by the pigeon 0542293/2019, with a score of 15.22 penalty points. The 3rd place pigeon is 0562914/2019, also with a very good score, 22.50 points. Among the stages nominated for the norms of the two pigeons mentioned earlier, there are many competitions won categorically by Florin Hanciu, 0542293 and 0562914 being often in the group of pigeons arriving in the first places.
Robert Fekete and Florin Lucaciu (SJ), provincial champions for Yearlings Short distance, Old birds Short distance and Breeder Short distance categories
Team Fekete+Lucaciu also had a very good season in 2019. Their provincial and national record will increase considerably after the trophies are awarded and including at the 2020 Racing pigeons Olympiad, there are very good chances to take a place on the podium. But for now, we only refer to the provincial championship, where team Fekete+Lucaciu won the Short distance category, 1st place Youngsters, Old birds and Breeders. Champion for Yearling Short distance is the cock 0336105/2018, who achieved the norm with a score of 14.98 penalty points. More than that, the cock is a provincial champion also for Yearling Middle distance and provincial vice champion for Yearlings Ace Speed, following a season in which he scored 11 races out of 12. For Old birds Short distance, provincial champion is probably one of the best Short distance – Middle distance who ever competed in Romania. The cock 0158611/2016 is multiple national trophies winner, of which we can remember 1st place National Old Birds middle distance, 2nd National Old birds Ace Speed, 3rd place National H Category, Olympic norm, plus other top 5 national appearances in different categories in 2018. This year it will be the winner of six national cups, four of them being 1st place nationally (Palmares Short distance, Palmares Middle distance, Palmares Ace speed, Palmares). It will most likely become a very good breeder also, in the loft of the two fanciers in Zalau. Already a son of this pigeon, 0333231/2018, is a provincial champion for Ace Speed and 3rd place provincial for Yearlings Short distance, which shows that he inherits much of his father’s quality. Not least, team Fekete+Lucaciu also won the provincial 1st place at Breeders Short distance, with a score of 26.23 penalty points. The extraordinary thing is that absolutely all five nominated stages for the norm of Breeders Short distance were races in which the two were the winners of 1st place.
