From the racing pigeon sport point of view, Transylvania is a very difficult region. The relief predominated by the mountains, and the flight routes used, most often to Poland or to the West, impose a difficult and hostile environment for performances in this sport. However, fanciers in this region are making huge efforts and manage to complete the competition races every year. The province of Transylvania includes the counties of Cluj, Bistrita Nasaud, Hunedoara, Alba, Sibiu, Mures, Brasov, Harghita and Covasna. In different protocols, fanciers from these associations compete at a high level each year and they succed themselves in different seasons in the provincial rankings. This year, for Short distance category, provincial champions at different subcategories are from different counties, which again shows that no county holds the supremacy.
Damian Dragoiu – provincial champion at Young birds, Short distance category
For this category, this season was dominated by Damian Dragoiu from Brașov. A fancier who found this passion not very long ago, Damian Dragoiu has already met many performances with his pigeons. This year was another opportunity to prove the value of his pigeons, winning the 1st and 2nd places on the Transylvania Province in the Young birds Short distance category. Champion was the bird 0584581/2019, with 13.81 penalty points, followed by his „roommate” 0584572/2019, who achieved a coefficient of 20.03 points.
Matei Romulus, 1st place Provincial Yearlings Short distance
For Yearlings Short distance, the best pigeon in Transylvania was of Matei Romulus from Cluj. Far from being a premiere, the result of the Cluj fancier was achieved by the cock 0298504/2018. The bird managed a coefficient of 6.66 penalty points, a rather small one considering the fact that this is a norm consisting of five stages of competition. Among its very good stages are rankings as 5th place out of 11,571 pigeons, or 12th place out of almost 6000 pigeons, which shows that we are talking about a real quality pigeon with a promising future.
Platon brothers, provincial champions with a super hen
At the moment, there are quite a few fanciers who compete using the natural method, and if we refer about those who do it for short distances, it is almost impossible to believe that they use natural. The situation doesn’t apply for the Platon Brothers from Bistrita Nasaud, which compete with good results at short distance stages, middle distance and long distance, using natural method. A super hen from their flying team has had an amazing 2019 season. At the age of two, 0268031/201’s performances exploded, being a provincial champion for Old birds Short distance (6.15 penalty points), Old birds Middle distance (9.10 points), Palmares Short distance (18.23 puncte) and Palmares Middle distance(22.02 puncte).
Szekely Miklos, 1st place Provincial Breeders Short distance category
Provincial champion at Breeders Short distance was this year Szekely Miklos from Alba. In the breeders competition he has achieved very good stages, the norm for the Breeders Short distance category being achieved only with races where he won the 1st place, totaling a coefficient of 15.46 penalty points. Szekely Miklos managed to be the best fancier in both Alba and Transylvania, against 535 fanciers who met the conditions of the Breeders Short distance norm.
