On June 6, the Sibiu Racing Pigeon Association organized the third competition of the 2020 competitive year. The pigeons were launched from Zahony, Hungary, for a competition with an average distance of over 300 km for all participating fanciers. The winner of the competition was Florin Savu from Mediaș, who occupied the first three places in the ranking, and the best of the fanciers was Vasile Morar, from Sibiu.
Forced by the unfavorable weather, the pigeon fanciers from Sibiu decided to organize the first short distance – middle distance competition last week, although initially was scheduled a short distance race. The preparation of the pigeons for the long-distance stage was a priority, so that on June 6, the Zahony short distance – middle distance competition took place (Hungary), in which 96 pigeon fanciers and a total number of 3,761 pigeons participated. The speed of the top pigeons in the ranking slightly exceeded the average of 1,100 m / min, so we can say that the Zahony race was quite difficult.
Florin Savu wins the first three places
Florin Savu from Medias is a fancier with very good results in the Long distance and Marathon categories, but it seems that his pigeons can also win in slightly shorter competitions. For him, the Zahony race had a distance of 297 km and was a good opportunity to register a new important result. Three hens arrived in his loft at the same time, being recorded in just 11 seconds. They ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, the average speed achieved by the first of the females being 1,130 m / min. “I compete for the Long distance and Marathon categories. Here I had the most important results, such as the 2nd place in the National Old birds Marathon in 2012 and the 5th place in the European Cup, E category. I compete my pigeons using widowhood method, I separate them after they have raised one pair of youngsters. The three hens, the best of this race, were not mated at all this spring for the simple reason that they did not want to. All three of them are nieces of my hen “Nikita”, national vice-champion at the Old birds Marathon in 2012 and 5th place at the European Cup in Dortmund. The competition was a very difficult one, with a rather late launch hour, with a headwind, and to prepare them for this competition I did nothing too special, apart from two training sessions from a distance of 25 km before basketing ”, said Florin Savu. The fancier from Mediaș also positioned himself very well in the breeders’ ranking at this stage, where he won the 11th place out of 96 participating fanciers, with 26 pigeons ranked out of 37. In breeders competition, the Zahony stage was won by Vasile Morar from Sibiu. Out of the 87 pigeons engaged, 35 of them ranked the competition. His first pigeon in the team, a hen, ranked 8th on the launch, while the next team pigeon, also a hen, ranked 69th in the competition.
