The National Middle-distance category is achieved by scoring four stages, the distance of which must be between 285 and 630 km. Every year, this category is one of the most disputed, as it also was in the 2019 season. The national champions of Romania from the last season are from the most diverse areas of the country, being the first year in which a certain province no longer holds the monopoly over this category.
More than that, for Young birds Middle-distance category in 2019 we witnessed a real premiere, referring here to the last four seasons. Moldova manages to win a new title at Middle-distance in 2019, last time this trophy being won by a moldavian fancier four years ago, in 2015.

The return of Moldavian fanciers to the national podium at National Young birds Middle-distance was not a timid one. Although Moldova is known as an area of long distance stages, Middle-distance category was treated with great interest by Moldavian fanciers in young birds season of 2019, and the results are more than relevant. Nelu Bîzgan manages to win both the title of national champion and also the 2nd place for National Middle-distance. The trophy for third place will also go to Suceava, in the trophy cabinet of team Nicu and Ioan Mironescu. The young bird champion of this year, RO 1014578/2019 managed to score a total of 1505 km, finalizing the norm of the National Middle-distance category with 9.02 penalty points.
Team Manole Victoraș + Răzvan (Dâmbovița), winner of the 1st place National Yearlings Middle-distance category, with a record score
Team Manole Victoraș + Răzvan, from Dâmbovița, achieved a double performance in 2019. They won the 1st place National Yearlings Middle-distance, thus becoming national champions, with a record of penalty points: 2.8. It is the lowest penalty score of the last ten years achieved at this category and, because it’s a very very good one, it will be a long time from now difficult to match or overtake. The performance was done by a young hen, RO 0026060/2018, which participated in nine races in 2019. The four Middle-distance races nominated for this norm were competitions with a distance of 373 km. At all four stages, the hen has achieved the incredible performance of placing first, in three of them occupying the 1st place of the whole competition.
David-Marian Antofie (Ilfov), the national champion of the 2019 season of National Old birds Middle-distance category
First place for National Old birds Middle-distance was won in the 2019 season by David-Marian Antofie, member of the Ilfov association. The champion pigeon is a cock of three years old, RO 0378733/2016, the 2019 season being the best of its career so far. Besides the 1st national place for Old birds Middle-distance, same pigeon is also a national vice-champion in the Middle-distance Palmares category and will participate for the European Cup next year. Not least, 1st place in the category National Middle-distance Breeders (the team made in four stages of middle-distance races) was won this year by the team Simion Emil & Dumitran Stelian from Bucharest. The two fanciers are very well known for their quality pigeons, but also for the affinity to the short stages. For them, the 2019 competition year was one of the best, with two national champion trophies won in their favorite categories.
