In solidarity with all those affected by the pandemic triggered by the COVID-19 virus, the National Federation of Pigeon Fanciers in Romania (FNCPR), with the commendable participation and collaboration of many romanian and foreign fanciers, successfully carried out the largest charitable initiative in which it was involved: The charity auction “We defeat COVID-19 together”! 11 auctions were organized, with 125 pigeons available, and, at the end, the total amount was 73,750 lei.

The charity auction “We defeat COVID-19 together” started at the initiative of Marius Boboc, a Romanian pigeon fancier settled in Belgium. With the total involvement of the management of the FNCPR, we appealed to Romanian pigeon fanciers with national top results, but also to important fanciers from countries with a very rich tradition in racing pigeons sport. From the very beginning, it was established that the money gained from the sale of the pigeons should be redirected to the charitable foundation “Appreciate life”, coordinated by Andreea Marin. Through this foundation, the medical units involved in the treatment of COVID-19 patients were helped and the people affected were supported..

Champions also for good deeds

Supporting the fight against the New Coronavirus with such a sum would not have been possible without the receptivity and openness of Romanian pigeon fanciers and not only. This should include both fanciers who donated pigeons, each time being youngsters bred from the most important pigeons of their loft, but also pigeon fanciers who purchased these pigeons. This charity auction was called “Defeating COVID-19 together” for a good reason,  because together, the pigeon fanciers managed to donate a huge amount and thus support those who are fighting the pandemic and those already affected. From abroad, important names took part in the charity auction of the FNCPR, thus proving that they have a special appreciation for pigeon lovers in Romania. Here, we must mention Wim Muller, Jacky de Bruine, Dr. de Weerd, Markus Sollner, Guy Baerts, Andre Paulssen, Jos Thone, Team Vollebregt, Machiel Buijck, H. & E-J. Eijerkamp, ​​Theo Rutten etc. The Charitable Auction “We defeat COVID-19 together” is the most important charitable initiative in which our Federation was involved, and the amount we managed to donate to the “Appreciate Life” foundation, whose coordinator is our friend Andreea Marin, is one without previous. We are very happy that we managed to bring our contribution in this common struggle and to bring our contribution to the end of this pandemic, which we see how many problems has created for all of us. We want to thank the foreign pigeon fanciers who supported our approach and who showed that they consider us very close to their hearts, but also the Romanian fanciers for their solidarity. We have proved through this auction that pigeon fanciers in Europe are much more united than the European Union really is! „We all hope that the COVID-19 virus will leave us alone as soon as possible so we can go back to our lives, and that we, pigeon fanciers, will enjoy our passion again “, said Marius Tunduc, president of FNCPR.
