Who will represent Romania at the World Best Pigeon 2021?

After the end of the National Championship and after the establishment of the winners of the 2021 season, the list of Romanian pigeon fanciers who will represent our country in the World Best Pigeon 2021 ranking was drawn up. Our country has occupied very good positions so far, we hope for remarkable results in 2021 as well.

World Best Pigeon is an international championship or, better said, an international ranking, in which pigeon fans from European member countries of the International Pigeon Federation take part. Based on the evolution of the national championships, the pigeons from different countries are ranked according to criteria similar to those of the Pigeon Olympics and grouped into six distance categories. This means that most of the time, at least in the case of Romania, the pigeons from the national tops are the ones that represent our country in this championship. Beyond all this, World Best Pigeon is a great opportunity to see where we stand as a country in international pigeon fancier.

The Szabo family (Salaj), Victor Chiriac (Dambovita) and Miklos Szekely (Alba) will represent Romania in the Speed category

The first category of the World Best Pigeon Championship is the Speed category and, as you can easily guess, it is the category dedicated to pigeon fans passionate about short distance stages. In this regard, the best scores of the pigeons achieved in five stages with a distance between 100 and 400 km are calculated. This year, in the Speed category, Romania will be represented at the World Best Pigeon by the Szabo Family (SJ), Victor Chiriac (DB) and Miklos Szekely.
The team Poenaru + Călin (Dolj), Cosmin Olteanu (Prahova) and the team Manole Victoraș + Răzvan (Dambovita) will participate in the Midlle Distance category.
For the Midlle Distance category of the World Best Pigeon ranking, four races are considered, with distances between 300 and 600 km. Last year, in the same category, Romania took second place thanks to the team Manole Victoraș + Răzvan, pigeon fanciers who will be present in this championship this season as well, but, this time, from the third position. The first place at national level is also occupied by a team, Poenaru + Călin, from Dolj, and on the second position is Cosmin Olteanu from Prahova. In this order, they will represent our country in this category. “She is a hen who competed very well this season. At the national level, she is the national champion in the Speed Ace category, the national vice-champion in the Middle distance category, and in Speed she occupies the 3rd national place and she also ranks in the same position in the D-General Palmares category. Her father is an original Mees Doornekamp pigeon, and her mother is a Vandenabeele-Hooymans cross. At national level we are extremely satisfied with its evolution, so we hope that in this ranking our pigeon will get a very good ranking as well”, said Răzvan Călin.

Long Distance, three first appearances

In the Long Distance category, Romania will be represented by pigeon fanciers Marius Otea (Gorj), Cristian Lemnaru and Cătălin Nițu, both from the Olt association. For this distance segment, the lowest scores obtained by pigeons were centralized in three competitions of over 500 km and, fortunately, the coefficients of the pigeons that will represent our country in this category are very small. If last year we almost missed a ranking on the podium of the competition, the chances that this year Romania will occupy a place on the podium, with the 2.52 points obtained by Marius Otea’s pigeon, are very realistic.

For all Round category, Liviu Vieru (Olt), Cristian Lemnaru (Olt) and Class A.L.B. (Bacau) will participate

For the All Round category of the World Best Pigeon Championship, the best five races are centralized, the distance of which is in the range of 100-500 km. From Romania, in this category, pigeon fanciers Liviu Vieru and Cristian Lemnaru will be present, both from Olt, but also the Class A.L.B from Bacau. In fact, the mentioned pigeon fanciers keep their positions in the internal ranking of the General Old birds category, and the coefficient obtained by Liviu Vieru’s cock gives us high hopes for winning this category of the World Best Pigeon championship. “I am aware that there are great chances to occupy the very first position on the entire ranking of this championship. In any case, there are performances that far exceeded my expectations. The cock had a fantastic evolution at national level, he won, as it is known, five races, he is double national champion and double national vice-champion. A 1st place at World Best Pigeon would do nothing but complete an unforgettable season “, said Liviu Vieru.

Marathon and Super Marathon categories

In the previous two editions of the World Best Pigeon Championship, the best results of our country were obtained in the Marathon category. Both in 2019 and in 2020, through the pigeon fanciers Elisei Eacobuta and Florian Cernitu, Romania took first place in this category, which involves ranking two competitions of over 700 km. At the proposal of Romania’s representatives within the International Pigeon Federation, in addition to the Marathon category, the Super Marathon category was added starting this season, where two competitions of over 900 km are centralized. In the first of the two categories, our country will be represented by the Tunduc Family (Bihor), the Stroescu Claudiu + Mihăilescu Mihai (Prahova) tandem and the Frații Gheorghe + Luca (Dambovita) team. For the Super Marathon category, the trio Măgirescu + Ojog + Dorneanu (Bacau), Cristian Brumușescu (Olt) and Ionuț Cîrciumaru (Dolj) will enter the competition. By far, the champion of the Măgirescu + Ojog + Dorneanu trio, with only the 20 hundredth penalty, has the best chances to take the name of our country again on the highest step of the European podium. “The pigeon is the son of two national champions of our loft, cock 004, 1st place National Old birds Ace Marathon 2017, and hen Triple Champion. She is part of a real family of winners, being half-siblings by her mother with the winner of the 2019 Birzai National stage, which was an equally difficult stage, the respective hen arriving all night, at 23:58. He is a cousin, on his father’s line, with the 1st place National Marathon Grand Prix Old birds 2020 and the 1st place Madona Palmares 2020. At the age of one and two years he competed in two marathons, and this year he flies and ranks three marathon stages, making Marathon Palmares with 22 points and Ace Marathon with 45.8 points. It is very important that he took the 2nd place at Kelme and has a historical score at the Mature Marathon, of only 0.20 hundredths. He competed on eggs for 13-14 days at the first marathon, at Madona he had chicks, and at Birzai he had eggs for 4-5 days. It is a pigeon that attaches very well to the nest, often finding it in the box, next to his hen “, said Daniel Măgirescu.

It should be noted that at World Best Pigeon the categories are not centralized separately, depending on the age of the pigeons. Also, any appeals regarding the list of representatives from our country can be submitted until November 24.
