A new category whose 2021 season performers we present to you through a detailed article is Middle distance old birds category. Although it is the first material of this kind about this category, the 2021 season, about the pigeons that rank in the first three national places, you had the opportunity to read on our website or, in the case of the 1st and 3rd places nationally, to watch and a video interview on our youtube channel. The reason, of course, is easily deducible.
As every year, in 2021 the Middle distance old birds category also highlighted extraordinary pigeons, which competed “shoulder to shoulder” until the last stages, being separated by only a few hundredths. Thus, the trophy of “national champion”, in 2021, belongs to one of the best pigeons provided by the Romanian pigeon sport in its entire history: cock RO-19-1007132, competed by Liviu Vieru from Caracal, Olt County. In second place, with only 16 hundredths more, ranks the hen RO-19-0686538 of the team Poenaru + Călin (Băilești, Dolj), a hen that in the 2021 season won no less than four national trophies. The podium is completed by Constantin Sepețeanu (Bucharest), with the cock RO-19-0006611. In his case, we are talking about a premiere presence on the national podium.
Liviu Vieru (Olt), national champion at Middle distance Old birds 2021
Not only the super-pigeon RO-19-1007132 had an exceptional season, but also Liviu Vieru, as a fancier, because “Fantastic 32” is not the only pigeon in his loft that wins a national trophy in 2021. In addition to the national trophies won by this cock, we must add those from fanciers competition, plus those earned by other pigeons from his loft. In total, we are talking about a fancier who has won no less than eight national trophies in one season. At Middle distance Old birds, Liviu Vieru and “Fantastic 32” obtained the 1st national place with 2.23 penalty points, after the already very well-known rankings: 1st place out of 15,809 pigeons (337 km), 1st place out of 13,117 pigeons (394 km), 2nd place out of 1,229 pigeons (394 km) and 5th place out of 10,905 pigeons (595 km).
Poenaru + Călin (Dolj) team, on the podium also in the Middle distance Old birds category
As we have stated on other occasions, the team Poenaru + Călin, from Băilești, Dolj County, competed fantastically in the 2021 season, winning a total of 12 national trophies. Four trophies were won only by the hen RO-19-086538. “Originally, it is reproduced from a Mees Doornekamp cock, and the mother is a Vandenabeele pigeon, from Wolfgang Rupprecht. We competed in the widowhood with the cock being left at home, being the best pigeon of our loft this season. We used Versele Laga food and, depending on the stage, the pigeons were taken to a 40-60 km training session in the middle of the week. Before the season, a chick grew up, after which it went directly to widowhood “, said Răzvan Călin. At Middle distance Old birds, the hen obtained only 2.39 penalty points, centralizing the following rankings: 1st place / 13,487 pigeons (366 km), 7th place 14 / 14,663 pigeons (296 km), 6th place / 11,526 pigeons ( 413 km) and the place 2 / 1,518 pigeons (379 km).
Constantin Sepețeanu (Bucharest) “grabs” the national podium in 2021
Constantin Sepețeanu from Bucharest is one of the “old school” pigeon fanciers in the capital of Romania, and in 2021 he managed to fulfill one of his old goals: obtaining a national trophy. It was won for Middle distance Old birds, the 3rd place nationally, and it is all the more important as it was obtained in one of its favorite categories. The performance was possible thanks to the cock RO-19-0006611, who in four middle distance races, obtained 4.82 penalty points. “The cock is a cross between Vandenabeele pigeons and Geerinckx pigeons. He competed in widowhood after being mated and raised a chick before the season. He obtained couple of 1st places this season, two per entire launch and one at club level. For feeding I use a single food mixture, which I get from the combination of several varieties of food from Versele Laga, and for recovery I use Avipharm. To train, I take them only once a week, at 70 km”, Constantin Sepețeanu detailed. Please note that one of the first three places was obtained out of 14,077 pigeons (307 km)!
