The Tunduc family and the Măgirescu + Ojog + Dorneanu trio, world champions at World Best Pigeon 2021

This is the third year in a row that the World Best Pigeon ranking has been compiled by the International Pigeon Federation, a competition through which we can deduce the level of competitiveness between the countries that make up the international pigeon forum. This edition, Romania, as in the previous two ones, had a very good performance as well. In any of the categories of the championship, the pigeon fanciers from our country rank first. In short, in only two of the six categories we do not have a pigeon fancier on the podium and, moreover, in both Marathon categories we occupy the first two places.

The categories of the World Best Pigeon international championship are already known among Romanian pigeon fanciers. However, we remind you that these are Speed, Middle Distance, Long distance, All Round (General), Marathon and Super Marathon, and the criteria for calculating the scores are identical to the old requirements of the national championship in Romania. Thus, for the Speed category, the scores made in five races with a distance between 100 and 400 km were taken into account, for the Middle Distance four races with a distance between 300 and 600 km were centralized, and for the Long Distance, the scores from three stages of over 500 km were calculated. All Round consisted of six races of 100-500 km, while for the Marathon there were two stages of over 700 km, and for the Super Marathon (category added to the express request of the Romanian representatives in FCI), two stages of over 900 km .

For the third consecutive year, Romania ranks 1st in the Marathon category

48 pigeons were nominated in the Marathon category, from countries such as Poland, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria or Slovakia. From Romania, this category included the Tunduc Family (BH), the team Stroescu Claudiu + Mihăilescu Mihai (PH), which in the national championship ranks 4th in the same category and the team Frații Gheorghe + Luca (DB), which ranks 6th nationally, also at the National Marathon old birds. Although in the national championship, the Tunduc family ranks 3rd nationally, thanks to the hen who managed to win two consecutive marathon races, both finished on the first day, in the World Best Pigeon competition, they rank first. Thus, our country again wins the first position in this category, as it happened in the 2019 and 2020 editions. Prahova County. The other representatives of our country, the team Frații Gheorghe + Luca (DB) also occupies an honorable 7th place. “We are very happy for the performance obtained. We did not expect to be world champions at World Best Pigeon, especially since we competed with a small team of pigeons. We competed in 25 hens in total and only 6 for the marathon. But, I’m glad I proved that it doesn’t matter the number of pigeons you compete with, but the quality and training. I am also very happy for the fact that we, the Romanians, have several podiums at this championship, which proves the value of our pigeons and the competitions we organize. Overall, a huge result for us and a very big result for Romania, which will make the Romanian national anthem, which we will organize, sing the anthem of Romania and, together, take Romania where it belongs. “, Mentioned Marius Tunduc, president of the Union of Pigeon Federation in Romania.

First place also in the Super Marathon category!

The second category with marathon stages of the World Best Pigeon Championship is the Super Marathon, introduced, as we have already mentioned, at the request of Romania’s representatives within the International Pigeon Federation. A new category, a new super-result for our country, we could say, because the trio Măgirescu + Ojog + Dorneanu, the national champions of the National Marathon old birds category with a record score for our country, also ranks first in this category as well. Our national vice-champion, Cristian Brumușeșcu, from Olt, ranks second in the same category in the World Best Pigeon, also putting his “shoulder” on building an extraordinary reference for our country. Romania’s third representative in this category, Ionuț Cîrciumaru from Dolj, is in 5th place, again, a more than honorable ranking. “I expected the pigeon to be the 1st place, because the score is very low. My colleagues from previous years also had low scores and won the first place and it was difficult to achieve a lower score than ours. Of course, it is also about a difference of thinking compared to other countries, a different style of competing, but, beyond all this, for Romanians it is a very good result, which crowns our evolution for so many years “, detailed Daniel Măgirescu . Overall, we can rightly say that, in the two marathon categories, the Romanian pigeon fanciers managed the best scores in Europe and beyond.

Podium in the Speed category as well

For the Speed category, the results of 69 pigeons were centralized, from all the countries where this sport is practiced at a professional level. If we had expected Belgium or the Netherlands to dominate this category, we can say that we were pleasantly surprised to find the national champions of our country, the Szabo Family, from Sălaj, in second place, ahead only of a pigeon fancier from the Netherlands. . “If at the beginning of the season I did not expect to become national champion, I certainly did not have aspirations for the World Best Pigeon ranking either. But now I am very happy with these results. I never thought I would reach this level and I think that only happens once in my life “, said Roland Szabo. In the same category, our country was also represented by pigeon fanciers Victor Chiriac (DB) and Szekey Miklos (AB), who although not on the national podium, were included in this ranking because the other pigeons on the intern podium were nominated for other categories. The two occupy the 8th and 16th places, ranking second in the first quarter of the ranking.

Liviu Vieru (OT) ranks second in the All Round category

We also obtained a very good result in the All Round category, where the multiple national champion Liviu Vieru occupies the second position, including 58 pigeons in the ranking. He is ahead of a pigeon fancier team from South Africa, but the difference in points is insignificant: 0.047 points (3,343 / 3,390). As a matter of fact, the third place, obtained by a pigeon fancier from Germany, has 8.6 points, and the first representative of Belgium has a score of 9.4 points. “To be honest, I was hoping for a good performance in this ranking, maybe even to occupy the first position. However, it is also very good, because taking second place out of 58 participants from all over the good world of pigeon sport is not a small thing. In any case, these are performances that far exceeded my expectations. The cock has had a fantastic evolution at national level, he has won, as it is known, five races, he is double national champion and double national vice-champion. To these is added the 2nd place World Best Pigeon, and I am very satisfied “, said Liviu Vieru.
Even in the other two remaining categories, Middle Distance and Long Distance, our pigeon fanciers did not do badly. At the Middle Distance, from Romania participated the team Poenaru + Călin (Dolj), Cosmin Olteanu (Prahova) and the team Manole Victoraș + Răzvan (Dambovita). They occupy the 6th, 11th and 15th places, in the total ranking being included 74 pigeons. For Long Distance, from Romania were nominated Marius Otea (Gorj), the champion of the Long distance yearlings category, Cristian Lemnaru (Olt) and Cătălin Nițu (Olt), the occupants of the first two positions in the national ranking in the Long distance old birds category. In the World Best Pigeon ranking, the three occupy the 5th, 11th and 12th places out of 64 participants. So, a new successful performance of Romanian pigeon fanciers at World Best Pigeon, which gives us confidence that in the future, through stability and professionalism, we can become a much more important country in terms of pigeon fancier!
