Olympic categories

National Federation of Pigeon Fanciers in Romania (FNCPR) is the only racing pigeons entity from our country which gives romanian fanciers access to the Columbophile Olympiad, European Cup or international exhibitions on Olympic criteria. Thus, Olympic categories are considered a very important component of the national championship in Romania and of primary interest to romanian fanciers.

The Olympic categories meet the criteria for the palmares, so that each Olympic category represents the fulfillment of the norms for different competitional categories in two consecutive years. Differentiated by distance categories, there are 9 Olympic categories, covering all the norms of the national pigeon championship, as follows:
1. A Category –Short distance 2 years Palmares
The norm is accomplished from 10 (ten) races, organized on designated weekends for short distance and short distance-middle distance, having between 95 and 420 kilometers. A minimum of 1500 km and at least one stage per season are required.
2. B Category – Middle distance 2 years Palmares
The norm is accomplished from 10 (ten) races, organized on designated weekends for middle distance and middle distance-long distance, between 285 and 630 kilometers. A minimum of 2800 km and at least one race per season are required.
3. C Category – Long distance 2 years Palmares
The norm is accomplished from 6 (six) races, organized on designated weekends for long distance, having over 475 kilometers. A minimum of 3300 km and at least one stage per season are required.
4. D Category – Allround 2 years Palmares
The norm is accomplished from 11 (eleven) races chosen from the following : 3-5 races between 95 and 420 kilometers, 2-6 races between 285 and 630 kilometers, 1-3 races over 475 kilometers, having a total of at least 3600 kilometers.
5. E Category – Extreme Long distance 2 years Palmares
The norm is accomplished from 4 (four) races, organized on designated weekends for extreme long distance, over 760 kilometers each. A minimum of 3200 km and at least one stage per season are required.
6. F Category– Young birds
It is a category dedicated exclusively to the young birds and it is carried out from 3 (three) races, over 100 km, without a minimum number of km being imposed.
7. G Category – Yearlings
A category dedicated exclusively to the yearlings and it is carried out from 5 (five) races, over 100 km each, without a minimum or maximum number of km being imposed.
8. H Category – Old birds
It is a category dedicated exclusively to the old birds and it is carried out from 6 (six) races, over 300 km, without a limit of km being imposed.
9. I Category – Old birds and yearlings
In category I are included old birds and yearlings pigeons which score in at least 3 (three) races organized on designated weekends for Long Distance, with a distance over 475 km, with a total of at least 1,800 km.
Over the years, the Romanian fanciers have successfully participated in the Columbophile Olympiad and the European Cup, being very often on the podium or among the first winners in the world. Moreover, Romania, through the efforts of the National Federation of Pigeon Fanciers in Romania, will host the next edition of the Columbophile Olympiad.
