National Federation of Pigeon Fanciers in Romania (FNCPR) is the promoter of several special trophies, which are granted to both fanciers and pigeons. Of course, the special trophies are obtained by fulfilling some completely special conditions, and they have a well-established role in rewarding the skill of the fanciers and the quality of the pigeons.
Following a partnership concluded by the FNCPR with the Royal House of Romania, romanian racing pigeons sport takes place under the high patronage of the Royal Family. As proof of this beautiful collaboration, National Federation set up several unique trophies, which means they can be won only once in the activity of pigeon fancier, trophies bearing the names of the three most important kings of Romania. The first one is the “Carol I” Trophy, named after the first king of Romania, the sovereign with the longest reign in the entire history of the Kingdom of Romania (1866-1914) and last but not least, the founder of the Romanian dynasty. With this distinction is awarded the pigeon with the best score achieved in 10 races of competition, totaling a minimum 5000 km. Among the 10 races nominated to win this trophy, a national extreme long distance race is required. Also, the scores calculated for the fulfillment of the norm are taken only from the county and general rankings. Besides the trophy, the winner will also receive a cash prize, whose amount is established at the beginning of each year by the Board of Directors of the National Federation of Pigeon Fanciers in Romania. It should be noted that to enter the race for the “Carol I” trophy, romanian fanciers must pay the value of a special contribution, established every year by the Board of Directors.
The “Carol I” trophy is only awarded at national level, which means it cannot be won at county or provincial level.
