The second special trophy is the “Ferdinand I” one, named after the second king of Romania (1914-1927), known for his participation in the First World War and for having achieved the Great Unification of Romanians in 1918. The “Ferdinand I” trophy is awarded to the best Romanian fancier of the year.
Following the same criteria as for the “Carol I” trophy, which awards the best pigeon of the year, the “Ferdinand I” trophy awarded to the best fancier of the year is obtained by the fancier with the best cumulative score following the team’s achievement in ten races of competition in the flight plan for old birds. The 10 competitions must reach a minimum of 5000 km, and the scores are taken only from the county or general rankings. The “Ferdinand I” trophy is a national award only, and can only be won by a single fancier. Romanian fanciers wishing to enter the competition for this special trophy must pay a special contribution, established at the beginning of each year by the Board of Directors of the National Federation of Pigeon Fancies in Romania. Together with the trophy, the winning fancier is also rewarded financially, the prize value being established at the beginning of each competitive season.
